Furnishing My Home!

A blog about d-i-y-s and decors that inspire me

Decorating With Elephants

A couple of days ago, I received one of the cutest birthday party invitations ever. It has a picture of an elephant on the card. Well lately, I am just crazy over elephants.  These gentle giants just make my heart melt.  I have since jumped on the elephant bandwagon and have been looking around for elephant decors for my home.   I chanced upon a few accessories which I really like.

Elephant Pillows from Modern Dose

Organic Hamper for Kids’ Bedroom from UnCommonGoods

hickory dickory clock

I saw this cute wall clock idea at decor8 just now.  A great way to decorate the nursery or your little ones’ room.  It is a Passe-Partout photo frame clock which you can fill with colourful prints, photographs or gift wrap for the unique look.    This clock is available at Dutch by Design.  Perhaps I should try my hands on doing one too once I have done reading about the disability insurance.  It looks pretty easy to do eh?  Just get the center timepiece with arms and  12 different sizes photo frames.   Time to let the creative juice flow.

loving this dresser

I have been looking around for a dresser for my bedroom.  I already have one but need an extra dresser to keep my things.  My bedroom furniture is in brown and are mostly made of wood.  So when I saw this cute Ordinal Dresser from Anthropologie, I was thrilled.  It is just perfect for my bedroom.  I love its rustic look.   The Ordinal Dresser features a metal top.  I can picture this dresser in my bedroom, keeping my clothes and accessories such as my scott kay rings and bracelets neatly.

Decorating With Bow Bins

I absolutely adore these cute Bow Bins from AreaWare.com.  Created by German designer, Cordula Kehrer, the bins are produced by the indigenous Aeta people of the Philippines via fair trade NGO Preda.  These whimsical bins are made from sustainably harvested rattan and reclaimed bins.  The rattan and colourful plastic combination is so eye-catching.  I would love to have a few in my home.

DIY Storage Using Bamboo Steamers

You know how much I love products made from bamboos eh?  Well, when I spotted these awesome idea from Pinterest, I just had to blog about it.   Get a few bamboo steamers in different sizes  (available at most Asian grocery stores), remove the bottom and glue the steamers together.  When secured, hang the bamboo steamers on the wall with nails or picture hooks and use them as storage.  A very unique and eco-friendly way to store small items and even portable baby monitors if you like.

Creative Headboard Idea

If you are looking for ideas on how to create a headboard, well look no further than this cool idea from Sunset.com.  Just arrange a few small light weight mirrors on the wall.  Don’t they look glamorous?  Reminds me of one of the hotels I stayed in last summer.  Mirrors are simple and easy to install.  They can also make a room look more spacious.

Small Space Storage Inspiration

A friend of mine has just moved into her studio apartment and it is about 500 sq. ft.  The apartment has a small kitchen, a laundry room and a bathroom.  My friend asked me if I have any ideas on how to create a partition between the living area  and her bed.  Yes, there is no bedroom door in this studio apartment and there is also no closet.   I remember seeing some really inspiring small space storage using curtains from Re-Nest recently.  I really like the idea of using curtains on closets as it has a softening effect on the room.  You can store your clothes, shoes, accessories, linens or personalized soccer balls in the closet and hide them behind the curtains. I cannot wait to show my friend these wonderful ideas from Re-Nest.

another cool headboard

Many times when I past by some factories near where I work, I would see pallets being thrown away.  I am so tempted to bring a few pallets home but my car is not big enough to lug them.  There are so much we can do with these pallets.  I have seen many creative bloggers posting about turning pallets into coffee tables, chairs and storage.  Just last night, after looking for Blue Cross Blue Shield NC online, I decided to take a break and check out some of the decor blogs.  To my surprised, I saw this lovely pallet headboard at Stylizimo.blogspot.com.  I love this rustic and stylish look in the bedroom.  I am inspired again!

Wooden Furniture For The Home

I went over to my friend’s apartment over the weekend for lunch.  Had a great time with her and I really like how she decorates her home.  My friend is taking a teaching degree online and she spends a lot of time at home for now.  Besides studying online, she also dabbles in some crafts.  She loves to scour the flea market to look for precious items to decorate her home which is filled with many teak and wood furniture.  What I really like is her wooden bed from FourHands.com.  It features a rustic headboard with storage under the bed.  If you are interested in decorating your home with furniture made from reclaimed wood, you may want to check out FourHands.com.
